This 400 sq. ft. solar off-grid small house design was submitted as part of LaMar’s off grid tiny house design contest where you can win up to $500 for submitting your own design.
But this 16′ x 25′ small home is designed to be a spacious, space saving, creative tiny home that’s fun to live in and share with others if you wanted to.
There will be solar roof mounted hot water heater, a unique upstairs deck/balcony, large kitchen, solar panels, and so much more.

I’m excited about building up a list of up and coming as well as current tiny house communities and in this post I’m introducing you to the 333 acre Sacred Mountain Sanctuary Eco Village which is in Candler, North Carolina.
It’s near Asheville (about 25 minute drive away) and it is a new permaculture eco village that is still being developed. Right now it’s possible to arrange a visit, stay in a cabin, and learn about permaculture.
And in this post you’ll get to tour some of their tiny houses virtually, take a video tour of the village, and check out their website, blog and Facebook page to learn more and connect with Sacred Mountain Sanctuary.

Skip video to about 1:12 to skip directly to the micro cabins. Unfortunately you won’t get to see the interior of the cabins in the video but you will get to learn a lot about the property from a visitor’s perspective who was willing to share in the video below.
After serving as CEO of Virgin America most people would think you’d find Fred Reid in a large luxurious home. But that’s not him. Instead he’s kept his small home and built a tiny cabin as a backyard office as well as an elevated treehouse cabin up in the trees.
I had to share this amazing video, interview and guided tour with you where you get to see his homestead in Sonoma County. This is where his small house, backyard micro cabin, and elevated treehouse are at. And one of the best parts is that his land is located in a Redwoods forest.
Former CEO Builds Small Home, Tiny Cabin & Treehouse
…instead of living in an oversized McMansion. And he explains why below.

I recommend you take some time to watch Adam Baker’s TEDTalk in Asheville on selling your crap, paying off your debt, and doing more of what you love.
Int his talk, Adam helps you find clarity if you’re on what way towards downsizing, minimizing, and/or simplifying your life.
Starting with one question. Why are you doing all of this? What does freedom mean to you? What’s REALLY important?
Less Crap, Less Debt, More of What You Love
To me, this is what the tiny house movement is all about. To get rid of stuff (whether it’s physical clutter or even mental clutter) so that we can create space for what REALLY matters to you.
Please help us spread the word to others who may also find this lecture helpful using the share buttons below. Thank you!
If you received value out of this lecture on getting rid of your stuff you’ll absolutely LOVE our free daily tiny house newsletter with even more!

I thought you’d enjoy this story of a couple who’s living tiny in their 6′ x 9′ micro camper which happens to be a 1987 teardrop-like travel trailer.
But they have plans on upsizing into a more spacious 8′ x 20′ custom built tiny house on wheels. But for now, they’re content in their teardrop micro home.
I’ll let them tell you the story themselves below…
Couple Go Tiny in 6′x9′ Micro Travel Trailer
I encourage you to read their story, check out their tiny home, and even take the video tour below:
Video Tour of the 6′x9′ Teardrop Camper Cabin
“Hello Alex,
I’ve followed your page for some time, and it was where I saw my first tiny house, Dee Williams house! (who we later got to meet in Seattle)
That was in November last year, about a week after my partner and I had got rid of our apartment, things, and jobs and left to live on the road out of our 6′ x 9′ 1987 Teardrop Trailer.
We’ve now been living out of it happily and successfully for 7 months and couldn’t be happier.
We left Ontario, Canada November 1st and drove through the US, up the West coast and through British Columbia and we are now heading back to Ontario and will begin building our very own tiny house with a month.
So for us, we are upgrading in size as the house will be 8′ x 20′ and our space is now 6′ x 9′! Haha.
We are aiming to have our build be interactive with our local community as there is a growing interest in smaller more intentional living, but there aren’t many tiny house people in Southern Ontario.
We hope our journey can inspire people locally the way people a part of this movement have inspired us.
I’ve attached some photos and a video, feel free to share it.
